Throughout the year, Haliburton Forest offers a variety of employment opportunities! With a core staff of over 60 employees, our team is as diverse as can be imagined. A wide variety of skills is applied at Haliburton Forest and with the diversity of its operation and the appeal of its natural resources, staff play a prominent role in the day to day running of this unique organisation. Haliburton Forest is a growing company and positions from forestry and outdoor education to office management and maintenance become available from time to time.

While most positions at Haliburton Forest are long term or permanent, seasonal positions are offered during summer and winter.

The following positions are available for the summer of 2010 :

Sawmill Staff:
Job Description: Haliburton Forest is in the process of expanding its sawmilling operation. We have openings for various staff positions from yard work to mill duties.

Skills and Certifications required are:
  • previous work experience at a mill an asset
  • chainsaw experience (certification an asset)
  • experience in sawing lumber an asset
  • lumber handling/grading experience
  • ability to work in a team
  • machine operation experience

Office Assistant:
Job Description: The successful applicant is expected to  support the operation of the main Haliburton Forest office, where he/she will be based out of.

Qualifications required:
  • professional oral and written communication skills
  • team player
  • proficient in most common office software (Word, Excel, Access etc.)
  • valid driver's license
  • previous office and/or administrative experience

 

Woodworker                                                          Job Description: The successful applicant will operate Haliburton Forest's to be established wood shop. Here a wide variety of wooden products will be produced in support of Haliburton Forest's own operation or as retail items such as furniture, turned items, burl bowls or toys. 

Qualifications required:

  •   previous woodworking experience
  •   formal woodworking training an asset
  •   creativity and originality
  •   self directed and motivated 
  •   efficient
  •   ability to work in a team
 

Tour Guide - Canopy Tour:                                     Job Description: To guide guests on the world's longest Canopy Walk, providing for a safe, entertaining and educational experience; participating in the maintenance of the Canopy Tour and related infrastructure; this can be a full-time or seasonal position;

Skills and Qualifications required:

  • completed undergraduate university or college education
  • valid driver's license
  • current First Aid and CPR certificate
  • previous teaching/guiding experience
  • team player
  • energetic and creative
  • well developed communication, presentation and interpretation skills
  • basic knowledge and understanding of the natural environment
  • high ropes/climbing experience an asset
  • second language an asset 


Haliburton Forest's Internship Program:
Haliburton Forest  operates an internship program, designed to provide participants with experiences and skills in fields, otherwise difficult to access. In particular internship positions are available in Outdoor Education, Forestry and Horselogging. Internships commonly run for 4 months, commencing in January, May and September. Room and board is provided during the internship and participation in all aspects of Haliburton Forest's operation is an integral part of the internship experience.
